187 Meeting in church
A young woman was kneeling alone in a remote part of the sanctuary of a church when a young man knelt down beside her. The young man spoke to her, "I think it is remarkable that you would come here on a weekday as most young people are not religious these days." The young woman praying was reluctant to speak, yet she answered, "I have found that religion has provided a remedy for many of the problems in life. I have developed a reliance on prayer as it serves to relinquish many worries and distresses. Through prayer, my sins can be remitted. Would you consider a person like me an old relic or a remnant from the past?" The man remarked, "On the contrary, I am relieved to find such a woman as you. I myself am reliant on religion. By the way, I find you quite beautiful." The woman remonstrated, "Need I remind you that we are in a church? Please keep your remarks to a relevant topic." The man heeded her comment as a reminder and said, "Okay, I will keep my comments to a topic of relevance. I am a reliable man. I will do as I say." "I will be the judge of your reliability," said the woman. "Let's spend the remaining time in prayer." The man said, "If we were old friends, we could spend time in reminiscence of the past." "We're not old friends. Pray!" retorted the woman. With the exception of getting up a few times to relieve themselves, they spent the remainder of the time in prayer.
