The Senator and the Worm
参议员与蠕虫
A rich senator lived in a big house.
一位富有的参议员住在一所大房子里。
He had more money than anyone in his district.
他是他所在地区最有钱的人。
One day, he was sitting on a chair listening to a radio broadcast.
有一天，他坐在椅子上听广播。
As he listened to the news bulletin, a worm crawled from underneath the chair and onto his head.
当他听新闻简报时，一条虫子从椅子下面爬到了他的头上。
His cook was in the kitchen stirring some spaghetti sauce.
他的厨师正在厨房里拌意大利面酱。
Suddenly, a cry from the senator alerted him.
参议员突然尖叫，惊醒了他。
He ran to the rear of the house where the senator was sitting.
他跑到参议员坐的房子后面。
The cook looked and saw the worm.
厨师四处看了看，发现了虫子。
He tried to console the senator. "I'll take it off right away," he said.
他试图安慰参议员。“我马上拿走它。”他说。
"No!" shouted the senator, "I want you to kill it."
参议员喊道：“不！我要你杀了它。”
"But it's only a worm," the cook said." Why should we execute it? It hasn't committed a crime.
厨师说：“但它只是一条虫子，我们为什么要杀死它？它没有犯罪。”
The senator could not endure the worm on his head. "Hurry!"he shouted.
参议员无法忍受头上的虫子，喊道：“搞快点！”
The cook looked through several drawers but found nothing.
厨师翻遍了几个抽屉，但一无所获。
Then he ran to the closet and took out a pipe.
然后他跑到衣柜前拿出一根烟斗。
He returned to the senator and lifted the pipe over his head.
他回到参议员身边，把管子举过头顶。
He knew he couldn't just tap the worm.
他知道他无法只打蠕虫。
He was going to hit it hard.
他要狠狠地打一下。
He grasped the pipe tightly.
他紧紧抓住管子。
"What are you waiting for?" said the senator. "Kill it!"
参议员说：“你在等什么？杀了它！”
The cook swung the pipe at the senator's head.
厨师用管子朝参议员的头挥去。
"Oh, no" the worm said."He's going to chop me in half."
虫子说：“哦，不，他会把我砍成两半。”
It jumped off the senator's head.
它从参议员的头上跳了下来。
There was a tremendous noise.
一声巨响。
"Owww!" cried the senator. A bump rose upon his skull.
参议员喊道：“哎哟！”他的头上起了一个包。
Meanwhile, the worm crawled outside.
与此同时，蠕虫爬到了外面。
"That was close," said the worm."Instead of being nice, he wanted to hurt me. Now, that man has a big bump on his head."
虫子说道：“差点就被砸到了，他非但不友善，反而想伤我。现在，那个人头上有一个大包。”
