A magnitude 5.9 earthquake has struck near Bologna in Northern Italy, killing 4 people and causing widespread damage.
The quake was centered some 35 kilometers northwest of the city, at a depth of 10 kilometers. Emergency services say three people were killed in Sant’Agostino di Ferrara when a ceramics factory collapsed.
There are fears that others could still be buried under the rubble. Italian news agencies say the tremor lasted 20 seconds, sending people rushing onto the streets. A series of strong aftershocks have already been felt, with residents advised not to stay indoors. At least five people died and tens of others were injured in a 5.9-magnitude earthquake that hit northern Italy in the early hours of Sunday morning, local media reported.
