A memorial service was held by the University of Chicago for 24-year-old Chinese student Zheng Shaoxiong on November 18th.
11月18日,芝加哥大学为24岁的中国学生郑少雄举行了一场追悼会。
Zheng had just graduated from UChicago and was killed in a robbery near the campus.

Addressing the memorial service was Zheng's mother, Li Rong, who had traveled all the way from China.

"My dearest son, I cried all the way, missed you all the way, and finally came to the University of Chicago and the highest institution of learning where you pursue knowledge.

The first time in the mother's life, going abroad was not to travel, not to attend your graduation ceremony, let alone to your wedding celebration, but to attend your funeral.

Li talked about the happy life she and her son had spent together before the robber's bullet took it away.
李女士还谈到了儿子在被歹徒枪杀之前,母子二人的幸福生活。
She also shared her son's academic journey, from attending middle school in Sichuan Province, to studying at Hong Kong university, and eventually becoming a UChicago student.
此外,她还分享了儿子的学习历程,从在四川上中学,到香港大学,再到最后成为芝加哥大学的一名学生。
Those in attendance said he was an innovative, giving person while mourning his violent death.

While UChicago President Paul Alivisatos called "a sad and difficult time for the community."
