Fujian High People's Court today upheld the death sentence handed down to Wu Xieyu, a former Peking University student who killed his mother.
今天，福建省高级人民法院维持了对杀害自己母亲的前北京大学学生吴谢宇的死刑判决。
The Intermediate People's Court in Fuzhou sentenced Wu to death in August 2021 after he was found guilty of murdering his mother and illegally purchasing identity cards.
福州市中级人民法院于2021年8月判处吴谢宇死刑，罪名是谋杀母亲和非法买卖身份证。
Wu appealed the sentence, and Fujian High People's Court heard the appeal on May 19.
吴谢宇随后提起上诉，福建省高级人民法院于5月19日审理了他的上诉。
The High Court said Wu's actions constituted the crime of murder as he planned killing his mother for a long time.
该高级人民法院表示，吴谢宇的行为已构成了故意杀人罪，因为他长期以来一直计划杀死他的母亲。
Based on the evidence, Wu had complete control and recognition of what he was doing.
根据有关证据，吴谢宇对自己的行为有完全的控制和辨认能力。
The court added the original ruling was made based on sufficient evidence with the correct application of the law and appropriate sentencing.

In July 2015, Wu bashed his mother repeatedly in the head and face with a dumbbell, killing her.
2015年7月，吴谢宇用哑铃连续猛击其母亲的头部和面部，致其母亲死亡。
To cover up the killing, he borrowed 1.4 million yuan from his relatives and friends, telling them his mother would accompany him while he traveled overseas to study.
为了掩盖杀人的罪行，他向亲戚、朋友借款140万元，并告知他们自己的母亲会在自己出国留学期间陪伴他。
Wu then squandered the money. He also purchased more than 10 ID cards to hide his identity and avoid arrest.
之后，吴谢宇将钱款挥霍一空。此外他还购买了十余张身份证件，用于隐匿自己的身份，避免被捕。
He was arrested in Chongqing in April 2019.

The death penalty ruling was submitted to the Supreme People's Court for final approval.
