Hi! Did you know that there are lots of words used in English that are actually borrowed from other languages?
嗨！你知道吗，英语中使用的很多单词实际上是从其他语言借来的？
Today, we're going to review, specifically, Latin words that are used in English.
今天我们要特别回顾一下英语中使用的拉丁词汇。
Number one, carpe diem.
第一，把握当下，及时行乐。
Carpe diem means seize the day.
carpe diem的意思是抓住今天。
For example, I saved a lot of money this week, so carpe diem, I'm just gonna buy those new Pradas.
例如，我这周攒了很多钱，所以我要及时行乐，买下那双普拉达的新鞋。
Ka-ching!
收音机“叮”！
Number two, et cetera.
第二，等等。
Et cetera means and so on.
Et cetera的意思是等等/诸如此类。
Remember, it's et cetera and not ex cetera.
记住，是et cetera，而不是ex cetera。
There's no x there. Et cetera.
没有x。等等。
Number three, ergo.
第三，因此。
Ergo means therefore or consequently.
ergo的意思是因此或于是乎。
Now, remember that ergo is a high level English word.
请记住，ergo是一个高阶英语单词，
You cannot use it in an everyday situation or context.
不能在日常情况或语境中使用它。
For example, you can't say I'm hungry, ergo I'm gonna order a pizza.
例如，你不能说：我饿了，于是乎我要订一个披萨。
That's not very natural.
这样听起来不自然。
Number four, status quo.
第四，现状。
Status quo means the current situation.
Status quo的意思是当前的情况。
Now it is used in political contexts.
这个词经常用在政治语境中。
However, unlike ergo, it can be used in everyday contexts.
但与ergo不同的是，它可以用于日常情境中。
Who's the queen bee in this school? What's the status quo?
这所学校的大姐大是谁？现在的情况是什么？
Number five, alibi.
第五，不在场证明。
Alibi means or refers to an excuse.
Alibi的意思是借口。
So what's your excuse, what's your alibi?
你的借口是什么，你的不在场证明是什么？
It's often used in a law or court trial setting.
这个词常用于法律或法庭审判的语境中。
So for example, where were you at the time of the murder? What's your alibi?
比如说，谋杀发生的时候你在哪里？你的不在场证明是什么？
Um, I was at the Beyoncé concert.
嗯，我当时在碧昂斯的演唱会。
Six, per se.
第六，就其本身而言。
Per se means in itself.
Per se的意思是本身。
For example, I mean, I'm not a fan of the new Drake album per se, but I love him as an artist.
例如，我是说，我不是很喜欢德雷克的这张新专辑本身，但我喜欢他这个歌手。
So what I'm trying to say here is, I don't really like that particular album, but overall, I like Drake.
在这句话中我想说的是，我并不喜欢那张特定的专辑，但是总的来说，我喜欢德雷克。
You used to call me on my cell phone...
你过去常给我打电话……
And lastly, number seven, vice versa.
最后，第七，反之亦然。
Vice versa means the other way around.
Vice versa的意思是反过来也是如此。
For example, I'm helping her improve her English and vice versa, she's helping me improve my French.
例如，我正在帮助她提高英语水平，反之亦然，她也正在帮助我提高法语水平。
