A Peking Opera Troupe from China's Tianjin Municipality brought Costa Rican audiences a splendid opening performance at the recent 11th Costa Rica International Art Festival.
With drums and gongs, five most famous pieces in Peking Opera were on the show to offer its foreign audiences a unique flavor of ancient Chinese art form.
Dang Liying, head of the delegation says it is the first time China has brought Peking Opera, the country's quintessential performance art, to Central America.
"I feel that Peking Opera stunned local audiences. They really liked it."
Though the lyrics are in Chinese, Spanish subtitles were provided. And most audiences were preoccupied by the plots and melodies.
"The performance is quite interesting -- it's great. It is the best show I've ever seen in Costa Rica. Although I don't know Chinese, there is no problem for us in understanding Peking Opera."
