Cultural Activities Spice Up People's Lives During National Day Holiday
In the Chinese capital Beijing, the largest-ever music and dance epic, "Road to Revival" has been performed in Great Hall of the People from late September, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China.
The epic depicts the exploration, struggle, and development of China since 1840, and has attracted thousands of local residents to the theatre.
Mrs. Gong took her eight-year-old kid to watch the epic.
"It is informative and eye-catching. It's only two and a half hours, but it depicts the hardship China has been through since 1840. This epic, I think, has helped me to once again review China's history and realize the responsibility all us Chinese citizens have."
Around 240 performances including stage plays, cross-talk shows, music dramas, ballets and acrobatics have all been enriching the holiday season in Beijing.
One of these cultural offerings depicting China's love story is the opera Turandot, which was staged at Beijing's famous "Bird Nest" stadium.
Wang Zhu is a senior official with the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture.
"In Chinese tradition, 60 is a significant number. So, the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China is a special festival for the whole of the nation. In the culture industry of the country, lots of classics have been created over the past sixty years and this 8-day holiday is the best time to present them to the public."
Other parts of China have also seen various cultural activities during the National Day holiday.
In North China's port city of Dalian, residents of the Zhongshan District are busy preparing for a chorus competition titled "Ode to Motherland."
Dong Shuqing is one of them.
"We're going to sing Unity Is Power. I think Chinese people are very united. We want to convey our deep love of our motherland through this song."
In Southeast China's Zhejiang Province, a large-scale arts and cultural festival is taking place.
The local government plans to play over 10,000 scenes of various movies and 1,000 performances to the public from late September to October 11.
