Artist Cui Ruzhuo has bestowed on Beijing's Palace Museum its largest-ever donation from a single donor. His gift of 100 million Yuan-some 15 million US dollars-coincides with an exhibition featuring his works.
Cui is known as an innovative stylist who plays with the traditions of Chinese ink painting.
Some 200 works are on display, demonstrating his artistic style.
Museum Director, Shan Qixiang, has expressed his appreciation of the artist's generosity, and said a tentative plan is already in place for how the money might be used:one fifth will go to the preservation of relics, and the remainder to staff-training and research.
The artist said he owes much to the Palace Museum as, from a young age, he has spent many hours sketching there.
The exhibition runs through May the 25th, and its admission is free.
