China’s Public Security Ministry said 40 telecommunications fraud suspects were escorted back to China from Kenya on Monday. Thirty-five of them were from the Chinese mainland, and the other five from Taiwan. They were allegedly involved in more than 60 fraud cases worth 4 million yuan (U.S.$600,000).
Meanwhile, 36 suspects in another fraud group who were deported in April have been arrested. They allegedly swindled more than 26 million yuan (U.S.$3.9 million) out of mainland residents by pretending to be members of Beijing and Shanghai police. The two groups were believed to have colluded in fraud activities.
And mainland police said they have already informed their Taiwan counterparts. The Taiwan Affairs Office of mainland said all the telecom fraud victims and major evidences were found in Chinese mainland. The office said it will help the investigation and held all the suspects in the mainland. It said the decision is welcomed by mainland and Taiwan people.
