Now the final section of the China's Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge submarine tunnel is now in place. The immersed tunnel is 6.7 kilometers long and consists of 33 tubes. Upon completion, it will be the world's longest and deepest undersea tunnel.
It lines 40 metres below the seabed and it's capable of dealing with 300,000 tons of traffic. It is flanked by two artificial islands to accommodate the transition to the bridge that runs towards Hong Kong and Macau.
The whole project will be operational by the end of 2017. Construction of the main body is basically finished including the islands in the tunnel. What's left is the 70,000 square metres of buildings on the two islands. According to our plans, all is nearing completion.
