U.S.-led coalition airstrikes on the Syrian city of Raqqa have reportedly killed 59 civilians in the past three days. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says 21 children are among the dead. The airstrikes are intended to weaken Islamic state militants' hold on that city.
The coalition claims it takes every precaution to avoid civilian casualties. It has admitted 624 such deaths in its airstrikes since 2014 but that is a figure that independent monitors say is vastly underestimated.
