The international campaign to abolish nuclear weapons or ICAN received this year's Peace Prize. The Nobel Committee cited the spread of nuclear weapons and the growing risk of an atomic war for awarding their efforts.
ICAN's Executive Director Beatrice Finn urged nuclear States in her acceptance speech to sign the UN treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons which has already been signed by 122 nations. Hiroshima bombing survivor Setsuko Thurlow was beside Finn at Sunday's ceremony.
