US President Donald Trump's trade chief is lashing out at tariffs imposed against the United States. The European Union, China and other members of the World Trade Organization have been retaliating against American taxes.
The US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer defended American tariffs on steel and aluminum saying they were imposed under a national security threat which is allowed under the WTO. He said the EU's response has no legal basis. Within the past week, Europe has imposed tariffs on American motorcycles, bourbon, orange juice and other products. Lighthizer also said the US would take all necessary actions to protect its interest which could include WTO challenges.
