China Mobile says that is starting large-scale 5G trials and application tests in 17 cities around country including Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hangzhou. China's largest telecom carrier by mobile subscribers said today that tests are part of its push to quicken the rollout of the technology. The Beijing-based company also said it plans to set up a 30 billion yuan fund to promote the maturity of the 5G telecom industry chain. China Mobile and other Chinese telecoms will jointly contribute to the fund. The move comes shortly after China allocated specific frequency bands to China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom to accelerate the commercialization of 5G. China wants to have a trial commercial 5G network in place next year at a nationwide commercial 5G network in 2020.
