New fears for 9/11 survivors who were counting on a federal Victims Fund to compensate them. The government promised they would be there for you and they are not. The fund pays victims who were sick or dying from toxic exposure after the attacks. Just two billion dollars remained and now with reportedly nineteen thousand unpaid claims, future payments will be up to seventy percent less than what they paid earlier.
A program official told The Washington Post, this is a fairest way we could come up with. Former federal investigator Terence Oprah was diagnosed with 9/11 related leukemia 14 years after the attack. I can’t work. that’s why the pension that I’m getting is not enough for me to survive on. Lawmakers are making a political push to fix a problem. We need to fully fund the Victims Compensation Fund for the life of our first responders and our community members. It will take at least five billion dollars and congressional action to make sure these September 11 victims are never forgotten.
