The Canadian star first shot to fame in 2013, posting cover songs on the Vine video platform. Now, at the age of 21, his idols – Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, John Mayer, and Elton John – have become his friends or collaborators.

On Aug 26, his new single Senorita became the most-streamed song on Spotify for summer 2019. The song is a collaboration with Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello, and has gained a global audience.

Along with his good looks, Mendes has musical talent and a fierce desire.

In his 2015 single, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Mendes made the piano his companion. Last year he demonstrated his guitar skills on Like to Be You.

Like any working musician, Mendes is trying to build a long-term career. The singer admits he does pay attention to social media and what the press says about him. "It's literally my biggest fear, to wake up tomorrow and nobody cares," Mendes told Rolling Stone magazine.
