Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga has been elected as the new leader of the country's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, paving his way to succeed Shinzo Abe as the country's next prime minister. Suga won 377 of the 534 valid votes, beating his two main rivals- former Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba and former Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida. Their race to the party leadership kicked off last month when long-time Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced his resignation over health issues. Suga has promised to continue Abe's policies.
