5. What do you think of the cloning of human beings?
Candidate 1: As biotechnology is developing more and more fast, more and more clones came into our sight, just as Dolly. Since Dolly was born, clone nearly became a part of our daily life's top. To accept it or not, that's the question. What's more, some people begin to think about cloning themselves. Facing this absurd thought, I juat want to say: "Stop please, take it seriously."
There is no denying the fact that biotechnology is not our enemy. It helps us know better about ourselves and treat more incurable diseases, and we can also cure cancer and heart attack in a short time. But science often seems to be more concerned with what can be done than with what should be done. Some people what to clone themselves to make their life better or prolong their life. But I have many reservations about it. Which is the real one if you have a clone of yourself, you or your cloned friend? At that time, you are not you; you are just a part of you. Although you can clone a person, can you clone a soul? So the cloning of humans is not only a scientific problem, but also a serious social problem. Not a two-edged sword, it's a path leading to the hell, only a matter of time. Cloning humans means we have abandoned our own thoughts, our emotions and our social rules. So then what's the difference between humans and animals?
In our word, the cloning of humans should be forbidden by law.
Candidate 2: When it comes to modern technology, I believe, we'd better discuss this question from two sides. Since we all agree that the modern technology is always a two-edged sword, we agreed that the cloning technology may contribute to our society as well as do some harm to our society.
From teh positive side, the research of cloning of human beings will help us know more about the human body and human genes. It will provide us with some new ways to fight against some diseases such as cancer and AIDS, to make our body much stronger and healthier.
It does help people who once lost their love, with the help of the transplanting of memory, and one might get the one he or she lost back. With less sadness in posite side, the cloning technology is breaking the rules built up by nature thousands of years ago, and no one really knows what will happen if we really clone a human being. It is quite different from our inventing a new machine or something else. It is a human being, and he or she will have his or her thought, his or her emotion, and his or her daily life. There are all his or her human rights which should never be deprived for any reason. That means we are forbidden to use the cloning technology even for the sake of science.
Even if the cloning of human beings couls solve some social problems, it brings new problems on morals, laws, and the perception we have on our nature. According to the recent research, these problems probably are much tougher than those old ones.
There is another problem. How should we define HUMAN BEING? As a result we can not define cloning human beings precisely and we can not make right laws to limit the research on cloning.
However, it also brings different views. Someone will say: since we can not make right laws, the cloning of human beings should be forbidden in case of any disasters caused by us. While the others will say: we can't make laws because we have too much to learn and we have to do those researches on cloning of human beings.
So in my opinion, we are not prohibit cloning human beings absolutely, but we must make some limits on it to prevent the birth of a real cloned person. However, some basic reserch is essential, there are lots of questions for us to find out the answers.
