王恽的词，清丽雅正，平易通达，风格接近苏轼、辛弃疾。从内容上看，他的词可分前后两个时期。前期词中，多含沧桑之感，这是由于王恽6岁时金亡，40多岁宋亡，时势动荡，加之他前期在官场里，“似田间秧马”，用舍由人，并不得志。到了后期，由于元朝统一南北，局势大定，“人安米贱”，所以他晚年作品表现为和平淡雅，个人抒情和应酬之作较多，高唱"对酒当歌须适意"。
