可可网友们大家好，欢迎做客“布朗尼加分”口语课堂。今天我们要说的几个习语都和“understanding”有关。我们先来看一幅画和一个句子。

To understand the issue, one must read between the lines. 要想彻底理解这个问题，就要好好研究它。Read between the lines, 体会言外之意，读透字里行间的含义。来看两个例子：

Read between the lines when signing contracts. 签署合同之前要好好读透合同。

Reading between the lines of job descriptions to figure out what employers are looking for. 仔细阅读工作要求，弄明白雇主到底想招聘什么样的人才。

的确，人不可能什么时候都把话明白的说清楚，需要我们read between the lines. 除此之外，我们还要有能力get the hang of something. 理解某事；摸清概况；熟悉某物的用法。比如：

After several years of practice, I think I will finally get the hang of spoken English. 经过几年的练习之后，我想我会最终掌握学习英语口语的窍门。

I didn't quite get the hang of his argument. 我不太了解他那论点的含义。

在之前的节目里，我们介绍过know the ropes的用法，它和get the hang of something意思相近，表示“掌握诀窍；熟悉门路”。这里不再介绍。

那么“理解”的最高程度是什么呢？know something / someone inside out. 对某事，某人透彻地认识、理解；里里外外都明白。比如这种情况：

I know this trade inside out. I've been in it over thirty years. 对这行我是再了解不过了。我已经从事了三十多年。

I know my students, inside out, just like the back of my hand. 我对我的学生们了如指掌，就像了解我的手背一样。
