2ND PERSON: Umm…Sorry,I don't.
GEOFF: Excuse me.
3RD PERSON: Mmmm?
GEOFF: Can you tell me how to get to Angel Place?
3RD PERSON: Angel Place? I'm not sure... no, sorry.
GEOFF: O.K. Thanks.

GEOFF: Excuse me. I'm looking for Angel Place. Can you help me?
4TH PERSON: Yes.I can. Let me see…Yes. It's off George Street.
GEOFF: And where's George Street?
4TH PERSON: Oh, you're new to Sydney, then?
GEOFF: Yes. I'm from Albury.
4TH PERSON: Well, it's the first on the right. And Angel Place is in the second block, next to the bank.
GEOFF: I'm with you. Thanks.
4TH PERSON: That's O.K.

FINDING THE WAY 问路

向人问路和回答别人问路有好几种比较普通的说法：
(Excuse me) Can you telt me where Angel Place is?
Sorry, I'm afraid I don't. know.
Do you know where Angel Place is?
Sorry I don't.
Can you tell me how to get to Angel Place?
I'm not sure…no, sorry(I can't).
I'm looking for Angel Place. Can you help me?
Yes,I can. It's off George Street.
And where's George Street?
It's the first (street) on the right.
注意：
在问别人问题之前，也许需要说句话引起对方注意。可以说Excuse me，但不说Sorry。Sorry这个词用于道歉。不用来向人招呼。
注意下列各组两个问句不同的语序：
Where is Angel Place? (Where's Angel Place?)
Can you tell me where Angel Place is?
Where is she?
Can you tell me where she is?
Why are they laughing?
Do you know why they are laughing?
注意下列两个问句不同的语序和用词：
Where does he work?
Do you know where he works?
向人问路不能…开始就问 (And)
Where's George Street?这类问题。这样问显得突然，甚至粗鲁，通常要在前面加个套语Can you tell me等。
答句It's the first (street) on the right中，street可以省略，因为前面的问句里已经提到这个词了。

CONVERSATIONAL DEVICE

a) Let me see 让我想想。
在回答别人的问题以前说这句话是想留出一点时间来考虑一下。
b) I'm with you 我知道了；我听着呢；我听清楚了。

ARONUNCIATION CORNER

a) Can只是在简短的回‘答里重读，即读作[kæn]，单独念时也可重读。此外不需重读，读[kən]即可。例如：
I can help you[ai kən 'helpju:]
Yes,I can['jes ai 'kæn]
b)下面问句中有两点值得注意：
Can you tell me how to get to Angel Place?
(i)问句的节奏，以重音符号标明。请练习一下。一边读，一边打拍子。
(ii) To的不同发音：[tə]和[tu:]后面的词以元音开始，to读作[tu:]同时再加一个[w]连接音。练习下面的词组，注意[w]这个连接音。

To后面的词以辅音开始，to读作[tə]，
例如：to get[tə get]

第四部分：练习
