Jean: When did you first start practicing gymnastics?
Gloria: I first started at the age of four. As a kid, I couldn't sit still for five minutes, always bouncing about. It gave my parents a hard time. So my uncle persuaded my parents to send me to a gymnastics coach.
Jean: You started very early.
Gloria: Most gymnasts do, because you must develop your muscles at an early age. And the prime time for a professional gymnast is from 18 to 24. So unlike many other sports, gymnasts retire at a young age.
Jean: It's a sport that has a high demand for agility.
Gloria: Indeed. You also recover better after an injury when you are young.
Jean: Do you often get injured while training?
Gloria: It's really hard to prevent when you are doing the complex movements. It helps to stretch your joints, but still could not eliminate accidents.
