The Great Lakes are the lagest bodies of fresh water in the world.
五大湖是世界上最大的淡水湖群.
They are between the US and Canada.
位于美国和加拿大之间.
There are five lakes:Superior,Michigan,Huron,Erie and Ontario.
共有五个大湖泊:苏必利尔湖,密歇根湖,休伦湖,伊利湖和安大略湖.
When the earth was still in the Ice Age,
当地球还处在冰河时代,
there was a glacier that covered the land in this area.
在这个区域里面,冰河覆盖陆地.
Then when the earth started to warm up,
当地球苏暧的时候,
the glacier melted and formed the Great Lakes.
冰河融化从而成了五大湖泊.
Ever since then,people have lived beside the Lakes,hunting,fishing,
从那时到现在,人们住在湖边,打猎,捉鱼.
washing clothes,ice-skating and doing many other things.
洗衣服,滑冰和做其它的事情.
When Canada and America started building factories along the shores of the Lakes,
当加拿大和美国开始创建工厂的时候,都是建在湖边,
they became polluted.
使得五大湖受污染.
The factories would put their waste into the Lakes.
工厂把一些废物倒进湖里面.
Pretty soon the Lakes ecosystem was not right any more.
很快湖区的生态系统不正常了.
When fish and plants began to die,
当这些鱼和植物开始死亡的时候,
a group of people and scientists knew something had to be done.
一群人们和科学家们意识到该采取一些行动了.
They asked the government for a special program to help them clean up the Lakes

and make them healthy again.

These people set up a lab called the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory.

After they had studied the Lakes ecosystem,

they found that the pollution was killing the Lakes.

They still study the ecosystem of the Great Lakes today.

They have found out how the Lakes influence the weather in the world

and how different ecological events,

like warm waters in the seas,influence the Great Lakes.

If the Great Lakes dried up,the whole world would feel it.
如果五大湖干涸了,全世界都会受到影响.
Many areas would become deserts
许多地方都会变成沙漠
and many animals would lose their homes and maybe die out.
许多动物都会失去栖息地,或许还会灭绝.
People who live around the Great Lakes have learnt
住在五大湖周围的人认识到这一点的重要性.
that it is very important to keep the ecosystem of the Great Lakes healthy

Phillip,Cecily and I were going to the cinema.
我和Phillip,Cecily去看电影.
We wanted to watch a scary film.

I told them that I would meet them at the cinema at :

I arrived late,so they had already gone in and found their seats.

The film had started when I walked in.I couldn't find them right away.

The picture had many dark parts.

I waited and waited until finally a bright scene came on.

Then I thought I saw my friends sitting in the front.

I walked carefully down to the front and sat beside them.

I hadn't had dinner because I was already late.

My friends had bought a large bag of popcorn.

I reached over and grabbed some.

Cecily said,"Hey,what are you doing?"

It didn't exactly sound like her,but then she was eating some popcorn.

I said, "I'm hungry.I didn't have any dinner.

"Then I grabbed some more.Cecily then gave the popcorn to Phillip

Just then a terrible scene appeared in the film and we all screamed.
这时,影片正播放一个可怕的画面,我们都尖叫了起来.
I grabbed Cecily and she grabbed Phillip.The popcorn spilled all over us.
我抓住Cecily而她又抓住Phillip.爆米花洒了一地.
They both turned to me and said angrily,
他们都转向了我然后生气的说,
"What are you doing?"I couldn't understand why my friends were so angry.
"你干嘛?"我不懂我的朋友为什么如此生气.
I turned to them and looked at both of them closely.I suddenly found ..
