Japanese politicians visit Yasukuni shrine
日本政客再次参拜靖国神社
Japanese Internal Affairs and Communications Minister, Yoshitaka Shindo, has visited the controversial Yasukuni shrine, which lists the names of Japanese war dead. His visit, along with around 120 Japanese lawmakers, came despite protests from China and South Korea.
The visit followed an offering on Thursday by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, amid current strained relations between Japan and its neighboring countries. Sanae Takaichi, policy chief of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, was among the non-partisan group of lawmakers that visited the notorious shrine.
About 2.5 million Japanese war dead, including 14 Class-A war criminals of World War II, are enshrined in Yasukuni, which is considered a symbol of Japan’s wartime militarism.
