China's inflation up 2.4 percent in March

China's National Bureau of Statistics has released inflation figures for March 2014.
In March, the consumer price index went up by 2.4 percent year-on-year. That figure is also up from 2.0 percent in the preceding month. Food prices were the major driver, rising 4.1 percent in the last month, while non-food products edged up only 1.5 percent. The data for the first quarter of 2014 went up by 2.3 percent year-on-year.
Meanwhile, China’s producer price index contracted 2.3 percent year-on-year in March, following a 2-percent decline in February. The data for the first quarter went down 2 percent year-on-year.
