6月12日，湖南省高级人民法院受最高人民法院委托，向被告人周军辉、秦星送达了最高人民法院刑事裁定书。最高人民法院依法裁定不核准周军辉、秦星死刑，将案件发回湖南省高级人民法院重新审判。

BEIJING - China's supreme court on Thursday annulled the death penalty for two men convicted of the rape of the daughter of a social campaigner.
北京消息，周四，中国最高法院裁定，不核准强奸一名社会活动家女儿的两名嫌犯天死刑。

death penalty是死刑；be convicted of是罪名成立。
被告人周军辉、秦星强奸罪、组织卖淫罪（organize prostitution）、强迫卖淫（force others into prostitutio）罪名成立，最高人民法院依法裁定不核准周军辉、秦星死刑，将案件发回湖南省高级人民法院重新审判（retry）。
这起案件引起大量关注（draw considerable attention），因为受害人的母亲唐慧因不断上访（petition）要求严厉处罚（harsher punishments）周、秦二人而被劳动教养（reeducation through labor program），目前劳动教养制度已经废除（defunct）。
唐慧以当地劳教委侵犯她的自由（infringe her freedom）并造成她的心理伤害（psychological damage）为由将当地劳教委告上法庭，2013年七月，法庭判她胜诉（the court ruled in her favor）。
