国家语言文字工作委员会重点项目《现代汉语规范词典（Dictionary of Contemporary Standard Chinese）》完成新一轮修订，推出第3版，其中新增词条超过100个，“微信（WeChat）”“失联（lost contact）”“吐槽（may mean complain, mock or comment, depending on the context）”“拍砖”被收入。
一些词语的新义项、新用法（new meanings or usage）也被增补到新版中来。例如，“土豪”原本是指“旧时地方上的豪强，即农村中剥削农民（exploits peasants）有钱有势（taking advantage of fortune and power）的恶霸地主（landlord）”，《现代汉语规范词典》此前仅收录了这个义项。然而，随着“土豪”这个词语网络新义的流行，第3版在修订的过程中也补充了新的义项，即“今也指富有钱财而缺少文化和正确价值观的人（those who are rich but short of culture and correct values）”。
新改版的《现代汉语规范词典》增补了近400个表内的汉字（characters），这些字主要用于姓氏、人名、地名、科技名词（technology terms）以及文言教学。收录单字（separate Chinese words）12000余个、词目72000余条及8万余条例证。
以下是新版词典增加的新词（翻译仅供参考）：
Tu Cao 吐槽: it may mean complain, mock or comment, depending on the context
Tu Hao 土豪: people who are rich but short of culture and correct values
Li Cai 理财: manage the forturn so as to maintain or add value to it
Wang Gou 网购: online shopping
Zheng Neng Liang 正能量: positive/optimistic forces
Pai Zhuan 拍砖: negative comment, criticism
Wei Xin 微信: WeChat, a mobile social network application
Shi Lian 失联: out of contact
