Federer breezes into quarter-finals at US Open
费德勒进入美网公开赛四分之一决赛
Roger Federer took on 17th-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut in a night match of the fourth round of the US Open yesterday. The number two seed was looking to make his 10th quarterfinal appearance in the past 11 seasons at Flushing Meadows.
Bautista Agut, serving in white, was handed the unenviable task of trying to upset the Swiss maestro who has a dazzling 25-1 record under the Flushing Meadows floodlights, and he gets broken when he can't clear the net.
The 26-year-old Spaniard was unable to disrupt the Swiss express on this night as he serves on match point and Federer takes it on the error for a 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 and a spot in the quarter-finals against Gael Monfils.
Frenchman beats Dimitrov 7-5, 7-6, 7-5
Frenchman Gael Monfils makes a strong start against the seventh seed Grigor Dimitrov. He's returning in the near court and earns a break in the eleventh game when the Bulgarian sprays one long, and the 20th seed takes the opener 7-5.
Despite leading for most of the match, Monfils appears close to losing control during a tumultuous second set. At one point he seemed angry with his opponent, standing almost on the service line and beckoning Dimitrov to serve before swatting the ball out and marching to his chair. Not sure who he's angry at there.
After an angry conversation with the umpire, the fiery Frenchman recovers his poise to claim a surprise win 7-5, 7-6, 7-5. He reaches the last eight in the US Open for the first time and meets Roger Federer next.
