US reports 17 airstrikes in Iraq and Syria
美国报告伊拉克和叙利亚空袭状况
A US-led coalition has carried out over a dozen airstrikes against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.
A US military statement says 12 air raids hit ISIL targets near the Iraqi cities of Mosul, Kirkuk and Ramadi. A further five air strikes hit militant positions in Syria. This comes after the US and its allies carried out 14 airstrikes in the two countries on Thursday.
With the help of the US-led airstrikes, Kurdish forces have been able to drive the militants out of the autonomous Kurdistan region in Iraq. But ISIL remains a major threat in the country. Meanwhile, in Syria, the militants have established their de-facto capital in Raqqa, and control much of the surrounding area.
