China celebrates 66th anniversary of PRC founding
全国人民庆祝新中国成立66周年
Today marks the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Various celebratory activities are being held across China and around the world.
In Beijing, a flag-raising ceremony was staged this morning in Tian'anmen Square. The ceremony is held every morning at sunrise. But today the crowds were especially large. with many saying witnessing the event on October the 1st, known as the National Day in China, makes them feel especially patriotic.
Today also marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. And a number of festive activities are being held there to mark the occasion. Our reporter Xia Ruixue is in the capital Urumqi. She told us more on the events.
