Taking in five picturesque seaside villages between Levanto and La Spezia, Cinque Terre is so breathtakingly beautiful it is hard to believe it is real and not a modern-day Disneyland Italia. Expect colourful flower boxes outside windows, freshly laundered washing flapping over twisting alleyways and enough picturesque passages to fill a dozen photographic memory cards.

No cars or motorbikes are allowed in the villages, making them a pedestrian paradise best accessed by train.
