5月9日进行的托福考试独立写作原题如下:
All the university students should be required to take history courses no matter what fields they study.
这道托福题目的写作思路较多,一种是采用让步—转折—递进的结构,另一种是大家最熟悉的总分总结构。今天采用第二种总分总结构写出一篇托福写作范文,以供各位考友参考,全文如下:
What course should be taken by the undergraduates has always been a perpetual topic in our times. Therefore, when it comes to the issue whether it is necessary for all college students to learn history, people’s notions vary from one to another. However, as far as I am concerned, requiring all university students to take history course is a wise option for the following reasons.
Learning history courses can enlarge our social circle. It is because taking history class can equip us with numerous historical anecdotes. Furthermore, when encountering strangers, we can find various topics concerning history which are shared by two sides. For example, last year during my trip to a province in North China, I made acquiantance with Tom, an engineer. When we sat together on the plane, we talked about the reason underlying the success of Tang Dynasty which intrigued both of us. After this talk, we both agreed on the view that it was the diplomatic policy implemented by Tang Dynasty that contributed most to its prosperity. Since then, we became good friends and even now we still write to each other.
Furthermore, undergraduats are able to learn lessons from previous mistakes in history , thus avoidding the reoccurence of same errors in the future. Confiucius, one of the greatest Chinese thinkers and educators, once remarked, "past experience, if not forgotten, is a guide for the future". This proverb aptly illustrates the above viewpoint. For instance, in the 1970s, China initiated the Cultural Revolution which turned out to be a disaster. During that period, national economy went through a downturn, and people's living condition was miserable. Through reviewing history, China government has found out the causes of such a nightmare and took a series of remedies such as the implimentation of the Reform and Opening-up Policy. Now China has made eye-catching achievements. As the future host of our country, college students have to be aware of the significance of learning about history.
Admittedly, requiring all college students to learn history may exert certain negative effects. For instance, in order to set up history courses, the university has to employ professors and supplement the library with educational resources of history. For another, extra classes may increase the finacial and academic burden on the shoulder of students. However, compared with the benefits accompanying taking history classes, the above disadvantages can be neglected. As for the financial pressure on students, colleges can provide more sholarship for these students who take history. Therefore, I am still convinced that all undergraduates should learn history in that its advantages far outweigh its disadvantages.
