41.The Mover
When Scott had to move from China to America, he decided it would be best not to ship things by air.
That was too expensive.
Instead he compared ocean-shipping companies.
He called so often that he got to know their phone numbers by heart.
By and by he decide that Cargo Max was the cheapest by comparison.
When the movers came, Scott discovered by chance that the head mover was a friend's friend.
They had traveled western China together twenty years earlier by any means possible.
Once, during a landslide, they had escaped death by inches.
It was only by instinct that they had jumped to a lower ledge on a cliff.
Now, he said, travel had improved by leaps and bounds and he could get a package by mail to Urumqi in days, whereas it used to take weeks.
As they continued packing, Scott also saw that this man was by and large the strongest man he had ever met.
He picked up a box by hand that was too heavy for two other men on his team.
Scott was impressed!
It was by far the best moving experience Scott had.
When they were all done Scott gave them a huge tip.
He didn't want it.
Scott almost had to make him accept it by force.
Finally he accepted, saying that he would by all means make sure the shipment arrived on time.
It did. And Scott now recommends this mover to everyone who asks!
