When Mr. Keller first began to develop film for other people it had been exciting.
凯勒先生刚开始为别人冲洗胶卷时还觉得很兴奋。
The photos were always so interesting.
因为他总觉得那些照片很有意思。
Over the years, however, the excitement had slowly died away.
但是几年下来那种兴奋劲儿逐渐消失了。
Now he felt devoid of any emotion when he looked at other people's photos.
现在看着别人的照片他感到毫无激情。
Most people's photos, after all, differed from each other very little.
大多数人的照片毕竟差别不大。
There were pictures of kids, of graduations, of people devoted to helping others, of fancy dining cars, of celebrations in large dining rooms, etc.
一般都是儿童照、毕业照、全心全意为他人服务照、高级餐车照、大餐厅里的庆祝活动照等等。
But nothing new ever came along.
不会有新的内容。
Sure there were sometimes pictures of naked people, or of the aftermath of a night dining out, but nothing where Mr. Keller ever had to dial the number for the police.
当然,有时也会有些裸体照,或者晚上出去吃饭的效果照,但是还没有凯勒先生必须给警察拨电话号玛的照片。
But then came the photo of a man pulling a knife across a woman's neck!
可是后来出现了一张一个男人拿刀砍一个女人脖子的照片。
That surely was detrimental to her health! Mr. Keller thought.
那一刀肯定会伤害她的身体!凯勒先生想。
Not fearing a dice with death, Mr. Keller hurriedly dug up the number for the police to call for an emergency!
他不怕冒生命危险,赶快找出警察局的号码请他们急救!
He was determined to help!
他下定决心要帮这个忙!
The police found a murdered woman.
警察发现了一名被害的妇女。
Then they captured the man who did it!
接着他们抓到了凶手!
Mr. Keller was a hero!

When all the excitement had died out, the police met again with Mr. Keller.
当所有的兴奋过去之后,警察又找到了凯勒先生。
They had appreciated his help and how Mr. Keller had not been deterred from calling them.
他们对他的帮助表示了感谢,并对他不畏艰险给他们打电话表示了赞赏。
Then their conversation turned and developed into a job offer for Mr. Keller to help the police analyze murder photos!
接着他们转移话题,谈话逐渐发展成了工作邀请,他们请求凯勒先生帮助他们分析凶杀照片!
Mr. Keller accepted.
凯勒先生接受了邀请。
He framed the photo in his new office as a benchmark in his life!
他把那张照片装上镜框,作为一生的基准挂在了新办公室里!
