122.总统之子
Jonathan was in high spirits. He should be.
乔纳森的心情好极了。他应该心情好。
He was in fine feather and about to parade in front of a crowd known to be in favor of his father's presidency.
因为他精神饱满，一会儿就要在一大堆人曲前游行，而那帮人都是支持他父亲当总统的。
All Jonathan had to do was look good and smile in exchange for a lifetime of fame and fortune. He had it made!
乔纳森所要做的事情就是看上去光彩照人，为换取一生的荣华富贵而面带微笑。他成功了！
It didn't matter that his father bad gotten to be president in fits and starts.
父亲在总统宝座上时上时下其实不重要。
That would be forgotten in due time. All that mattered was that he was liked in general, and accepted by most.
到时候人们就会忘了这件事。重要的是他总体上受到爱戴，被大多数人所接受。
Now was the time to make the most of the perks of being president while it was still in effect!

Jonathan was in good shape. The crowd cheered, almost more for him than for his father!

In time, Jonathan could even run for president. America loved dynasties!
过段时间乔纳森甚至有可能竞选总统。美国喜欢王朝！
They seemed to prefer them in fact. It was almost like they were longing for a monarchy--a democratic monarchy!
事实是他们好像更喜欢王朝，就好像他们渴望君主制一样——民主的君主制！
It was a strange nation, always in flux, always thinking they were the best!
这是一个奇怪的民族，总是在变化，总是认为他们是最好的！
While they were the only superpower still in existence，they were fast fading as other nations massed together in flight from being ignored.

If America were in good condition and not so full of its own concerns, it would be more influential.

But this didn't matter to Jonathan. He was just happy to be in a parade. Happy to be the center of attention!
