China continued to step up dairy product supervision during the week-long National Day holiday, amid efforts to ensure food safety and restore public trust in milk supplies.

Across the country, milk contaminated with melamine has been withdrawn from sale, and staff have been sent out to examine diary products. Yili and Mengniu, two of China's leading brands, have promised to ensure the safety of their products. They are both promoting their brands to regain the public's confidence.
Meanwhile, milk farmers have been offered subsidies. The latest sample tests on over 600 batches of liquid milk from 27 cities across China found no melamine in newly-supplied liquid milk on the market.
