Stand here by my side and turn, I pray, On the lake below thy gentle eyes;
我请你站在我身旁,转过身来,就在温柔的目光下的湖上;
The clouds hang over it, heavy and gray, And dark and silent the water lies;
朵朵云彩高悬,灰暗沉重,水面黝黑又平静;
And out of that frozen mist the snow In wavering flakes begins to flow;
结成了霜雾的雪开始飘落几多;
Flake after flake They sink in the dark and silent lake.
See how in a living swarm they come From the chambers beyond that misty veil;
多大一群啊,它们从雾霭迷蒙遮掩下的云室走出;
Some hover in air awhile, and some Rush prone from the sky like summer hail.
All, dropping swiftly, or settling slow, Meet, and are still in the depths below;
全都迅速下落,或者慢慢扶摇,相遇,仍旧在下面的深渊里;
Flake after flake Dissolved in the dark and silent lake.
Here delicate snow stars, out of the cloud, Come floating downward in airy play,
Like spangles dropped from the glistening crowd That whiten by night the Milky Way;
就像从反光的群星坠落的精灵夜晚的银河亮如白昼;
There broader and burlier masses fall; The sullen water buries them all,
Flake after flake,— All drowned in the dark and silent lake.
And some, as on tender wings they glide From their chilly birth cloud, dim and gray.
