NOTES TO THE DIALOGUE
It looks like rain. 看起来要下雨。
(1) 这是英语的习惯用法,look like是“看起来像要……”的意思,like为介词,rain是名词作like的宾语。这句话说话人的口气不是十分肯定。
如果要表示十分肯定的语气,说“天要下雨”,就是:It's going to rain. be going to 指将来时,表示一种预言。
(2) 关于“下雨”的表达方式:
It is raining a drizzle. 天正下着蒙蒙细雨。
It is raining heavily. 雨下得很大。
The rain is pouring down. 大雨倾盆。
英语谚语:
It never rains but pours. 不雨则已,雨则倾盆。(祸不单行)
What a hot day! 多热的天啊!(感叹句)
表示天热的程度的其他两种表达方式:
It is scorching hot. 天气热得火烧似的。(scorching adv. 灼人地)
It's a scorching day. / It's a broiling day. 今天真是个大热天。
scorching adj. 灼热的
broiling adj. 炽热的
The clouds are gathering. 乌云正在密集。(下雨的征兆)
其他表达方式有:The sky is covered with dark clouds. 天空乌云密布。
It'll be nice and cool after a shower. 阵雨过后将会凉爽怡人。
英语谚语:After rain comes fair weather. 雨过天晴(否极泰来)。
It has been very dry these days. 这些天非常干燥。
也可以说:It has been bone dry these days.
