【词语用法】
against用在fight，strive，struggle等词后面，同with意思相同，不过against更强调一种困难中的反抗。
We fight for the weak against the strong.
作为介词，against后接的宾语有时可省略。
He had intended to come but somehow decided against(it).
【例句用法】
1.We sailed against the wind.
我们逆风航行。
2.We have saved some money against our old age.
我们存了一些钱，以备老年之用。
3.There are 26 votes for him and 8 against him.
有26票赞成他，8票反对他。
二.describe：vt. 描述，说成，形容，画(尤指几何图形)
【词义辨析】
describe, represent, sketch, picture,
describe: 侧重指描述细节，给读者或听众提供清晰的视觉图像。
represent: 指有代表性或象征性地描述或讲述。
sketch: 指快速地勾勒或概略地叙述。
picture: 着重能够栩栩如生地把事物或场景等描绘出来。
【词语用法】
describe有(用文字)描述的意思。例：describe a landscape（用文字来）描述风景。
【例句用法】
1.The falling star described a long curve in the sky.
流星在空中画出了一道长长的弧线。
2.The police asked me to describe exactly how it happened.
警察让我描述一下这事是怎样发生的。
三.intend：vt. 想要，打算，意指
【词义辨析】
intend, mean,
intend: 较正式用词，但常用，指对未来的行动做出打算，并力争实现。
mean: 口语多用，指怀有作某事的想法或希望得到某物，特别用于效果不好而动机良好的场合。
【词语用法】
intend后面多接不定式，而少用动名词，如I intend to go的格式比较常见；
当intend后面有宾语时，也多用不定式。
I intend him to do it at once.
我打算让他立刻着手做这事。
当表达“打算的事未实现”的意思时，不用虚拟语气，而仅需体现“打算”这个动作较早。
I had intended to come, but was prevented by the bad weather.
【错句举例与错句分析】
错句：Far better to leave the surfaces decently painted as they were originally intended.
纠正：Far better to leave the surfaces decently painted as they were originally intended to be.
翻译：远不如把表面适当地油漆一下，就像原来打算的那样。
分析：不可用they were intended painted，而是they were intended to be painted。
