一.allow：vt. 允许，让某人得到，留出，同意（法律） vi. (for)考虑到，允许
【词语用法】
1.allow有“给”的意思，后可以加双宾语。
He allows his son ￥10 a week.
2.permit和allow两词的用法和意思相近。
两者可以通用，均指“允许”，且后面都可加宾语加不定式。
Allow/Permit me to congratulate you on your success.
当不存在宾语的时候，两词后加动名词。
We do not allow/permit smoking in the kitchen.
allow和permit还常用于被动语态。
Smoking is not allowed/permitted in the kitchen.
但allow可与副词搭配使用，而permit不行。
She wouldn't allow me in.
此外，allow有“容许，并不禁止”的意思，而permit指“准许”，比allow更正式化。
Nothing is permitted, everything is allowed.
一切都不准许，但也并不禁止。
3.allow of同admit of一样，指“有…的余地”。
The question allows of no dispute.
4.allow for指“考虑，体谅”。
We must allow for accidents.
我们必须考虑到意外。
He has indeed made many mistakes, but you must allow for his inexperience.
他是犯了很多错误，但你必须因他缺乏经验而原谅他。
【例句用法】
1.She won't allow the children in(to the house) until they've wiped their shoes.
孩子们不把鞋擦乾净，她就不让他们进(屋).
2.This diet allows you one glass of wine a day.

3.He allowed that I had the right to appeal.
他同意我有权上诉。
4.How much holiday are you allowed?

二.perhaps：adv. 也许，可能
【词义辨析】
maybe，perhaps，possibly，probably
maybe: 普通用词，美国英语多用，指某事也许如此，含不能确定意味。
perhaps: 普通用词，多用于英国，与maybe同义。
possibly: 指客观上潜存着发生某种变化的可能。
probably: 一般指根据逻辑推理，估计有发生的可能，把握性较大，语气比possibly强。
【例句用法】
1.Yes, perhaps I'm wrong there.
是的，在这点上也许我错了。
2.As she's been ill perhaps she'll need some help.
她由于生病可能需要些帮助。
3.Perhaps this book will prove to be of some use to you in your studies.
