CHAPTER 15 The Crickets
第十三章 蟋蟀
The crickets sang in the grasses.
蟋蟀在草丛里唱歌。
They sang the song of summer's ending,
它们唱夏季收场之歌,
a sad, monotonous song.
一支忧伤单调的歌。
"Summer is over and gone," they sang.
“夏天完了,结束了,”它们唱,
"Over and gone, over and gone. Summer is dying, dying."
“完了,结束了,完了,结束了。夏天在死亡,在死亡。”
The crickets felt it was their duty to warn everybody that summertime cannot last forever.
蟋蟀觉得这是它们的责任,警告大家夏日不能持久。
Even on the most beautiful days in the whole year
就算是在一年中最美丽的日子
- the days when summer is changing into fall
——在夏天进入秋天的日子——
the crickets spread the rumor of sadness and change.
蟋蟀还是向大家传布哀伤和变化的消息。
Everybody heard the song of the crickets.
人人都听到了蟋蟀的歌。
Avery and Fern Arable heard it as they walked the dusty road.

They knew that school would soon begin again.

The young geese heard it and knew that they would never be little goslings again.
