Former Chinese gymnast Wu Liufang banned again, followers gained through violations cleared
Wu Liufang's Douyin (China's TikTok) account has been partially banned again for violating community guidelines and saw its follower count drop from over 6 million to just over 40,000. This comes after she had previously faced a similar ban due to her provocative dance videos. The platform took action after her videos, which included wearing national team apparel, sparked significant controversy and criticism from fellow gymnast Guan Chenchen.
The fallout between the two former athletes went viral on Chinese social media, with tens of millions of views on Weibo, and opinion was divided over who was in the wrong. However, users were united in anger over one video where Wu dances while wearing China's Paris Olympics tracksuit.
"You can post thirst trap videos, but distance yourself from the national team," one popular comment read. Another user said: "As long as you're not wearing China's gymnastics clothes or the national team uniform, you can do whatever you want, but having CN on the uniforms in your videos is inappropriate and disrespectful."
