Jialing might be China’s biggest star right now: 贾玲也许是现在中国最炙手可热的明星

She first became famous for her skit performances on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala and later established herself as China’s top female comedian: 她以央视春晚的小品表演一举成名，继而成为中国一线喜剧女星

Jialing didn’t stop there. She kept pushing the envelope and became a director with her debut film “Hi, Mom” released in 2021: 贾玲没有就此止步。她继续挑战自己，转型成为导演。并在2021年推出了导演处女座《你好，李焕英》

The film was based on the life of Jialing’s mom and earned over 5 billion RMB in domestic box office: 这部电影取材于贾玲母亲的故事，在国内票房超过50亿

This year, Jia Ling dominated the box office and online discourse again with her second film “YOLO”: 今年，贾玲凭借自己的第二部电影导演作品《热辣滚烫》再次统治国内票房和网络话题

人生只有一次，不如活得热辣滚烫

YOLO是“热辣滚烫”的官方英语片名。它是近年来在网络上崛起的首字母缩写表达：

YOLO (you only live once): 你只活一次。一层意思是鼓励和激励，因为人生只有一次，要热辣滚烫、实现自己。同时另一个意思是享受人生、享受当下

同期出现的还有另一个缩写表达：

FOMO (fear of missing out): 害怕错失。通常指跟风、赶潮流

英语概括《热辣滚烫》剧情

Leying was a college graduate who after working for a period of time chose to withdraw from society and close her social circle: 乐莹本是一名大学毕业生，毕业后工作了一段时间就退回家中、封闭自己的社交圈

A chance encounter led her to meet a boxing coach who started to train her: 机缘巧合使她认识了一位拳击教练，并开始拳击训练

Leying thus embarked on a journey of self-discovery and started to find her passion for life: 乐莹从此踏上了自我发现的旅程，也开启了自己热辣滚烫的人生

*Hot, spicy, burning这些词在英语里通常不会用来形容人生。也许这就是为什么官方英语片名没有直接翻译，而是用YOLO来体现电影的精神*

A coming-of-age film: 一部诉说个人成长史的电影（Coming-of-age这个说法通常指长大成人的蜕变，但也可以用来描述其它年龄阶段重要的个人成长和蜕变）

Break out of one’s shell: 脱茧成蝶、冲破束缚实现自我

绕不开的身材和体重

Body image: 身材、外形、形象

Weight: 体重

A lot of attention on Jialing and YOLO has focused on body image and weight: 许多对于贾玲和《热辣滚烫》的关注都集中在体型、体重

Jialing stressed that she did not make the film to lose weight as she didn’t feel there was anything wrong with her previous weight: 贾玲强调不是为了减肥拍这部戏，因为她对自己以前的体重并没有不满

The weight loss was for the character and athletic development of Leying and it was done in a healthy and holistic way over one year: 减重是由于乐萤的人物性格发展和身体训练，并且是用了一年的时间采取健康、多方位方式进行的

慎用“fat”

现今，fat这个词普遍被认为太直接、且带有些侮辱性质。所以不适合直接用来形容人。但是，自己说自己是可以的。

Jason在节目中分享了一些更礼貌的说法：

Bigger: 身型有些大。注意不能说big, 那样太直接了。用比较级更婉转

Plus size: 大码，形容词是plus sized. 除了形容服装，也可以形容人

Overweight（超重）和obese（肥胖）则更多用于医学相关的范畴，比如体检时或者讨论儿童肥胖等

Doesn’t want to be pigeonholed: 不愿被定型、被限制

Inspirational, inspiring: 激励人的、鼓舞人的

Genuine and sincere: 真实的、真诚的

Multi-talented, humble and hardworking: 多方面的天赋才能、谦虚、努力

Jialing has worked against many odds to realize herself and is being taken seriously as a filmmaker: 贾玲克服了诸多困难实现自我，如今作为导演得到了认可

She uses her art to chronicle and explore life: 她用艺术作品来记录和探索人生

Audiences respond to her storytelling because they can see themselves in her journey: 观众们对贾玲呈现的故事有共鸣，因为常能从她的经历中看到自己
