Unit 9 The God And The Foresters
Jack and John were foresters. They had to work in a forest every day.
They had to cut down dead trees and plant young ones.
They had to make paths through the forest.
Every day they took their axes into the forest.
One day.Jack dropped his axe into the river.
John was working in a different part of the forest.
He could not help Jack.
'I can't go into the river on my own and look for my axe he thought.
'The current is too strong.I cannot swim well enough.'
He turned to go home when a god came out of the water.
The god held up a golden axe.
'Is this your axe?' he asked Jack. 'No,'Jack said.
'That's not mine. It's too good.' The god held up a silver axe.
'Is this your axe?' he asked.
Again Jack said,'No, that's not mine. It's too good.'
Then the god held up Jack's axe. 'That's mine,' Jack said.'Thank you.'
The god was pleased with Jack.
He gave him the golden and silver axes as well as his own axe.
When Jack returned to the hut,he told john about the axes.
John hurried off to the river and threw his axe into the water.
The god came out of the water and held up his axe.
'Is this your axe?' he asked John.
