China heatwave no end in sight
全国炎热天气仍将持续不退
The heatwave is continuing to hit many parts of China. Dozens of cities and counties are experiencing temperatures up 40 degrees Celsius. And, the Central Meteorological Bureau is continuing to issue the second highest orange heat alert.
There seems to still be no end in sight for the summer heatwave in Southern China. Temperatures have been reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius in some places over the last two days.
Fujian, Anhui and Guangdong have been the worst hit.
Xia Lihua, forecaster of Fujian Provincial Meteorological Center, said, "High temperature is expected to last until Friday in Fujian Province. Nanping, Sanming, Ningde, and Fuzhou are all expected to see temperatures above 36 degrees."
In some famous scenic spots in Fuzhou, the heat has kept tourists away.
A businessman in Fuzhou said, "Business here is not very well in such a hot day. It is over above 40 degrees Celsius. people prefer to stay inside."
In Hefei City, authorities have upgraded the alert to the highest level. Residents are lining up to buy air-conditioners. And in Guangzhou city, fans and water sprayers have been set up in bus stops to keep passengers cool.
Residents in Guangzhou said, "This cooling system plays an important role in such a hot weather."
Guanzhou authorities have also opened shelters for citizens to escape the heat. The high temperatures are expected to last until the middle of August.
