Apple production ruined by hail in NW China
西北部苹果产量遭冰雹破坏
People in northwest China's Pingliang city, in Gansu province have suffered from unprecedented hail and storms, which have destroyed crops and fruit in the area.
According to a preliminary report, over 100 thousand people's lives have been affected by the disaster. The affected region is one of China's major apple-producing areas. Over 7300 hectares of apple trees have been affected.
Many of the trees were damaged on their barks, which means a reduction in output over the coming years. Wheat and corn were also flattened by the storm in several counties-- a total crop failure in many areas.
