70 years since UN Charter took effect
联合国宪章生效70周年
October 24th is United Nations Day. It also marks the 70th anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter and the establishment of the international organisation in 1945. A range of activities and events have been organized to mark this special day.
The UN General Assembly held an informal commemorative meeting Friday and adopted a resolution declaring a re-commitment to the aims and principles of the Charter.
Meanwhile, an exhibition is being held at the UN headquarters in New York. A selection of photos and documents covering key moments from the United Nation's history are presented there. A wave of blue, the official colour of the UN, will move across the world as part of the global celebrations.
The two-day event kicked off Friday with the the UN headquarters in New York lighting up in blue. Some 300 famous landmarks including the World Peace Center in the French city of Verdun, the Le Royal Hotel in Amman and China's Great Wall are taking part in the campaign.
