194.The rural life
194.乡村生活
The rural life is the life for me. I like living out in the wide-open spaces where you can smell the fresh air and see the beautiful grasslands. I like seeing lightning flash and hearing the rumble of thunder. I like watching the cows ruminate in the pasture, often with saliva dripping. The farm life is simple, unlike the city where you are met with a sally of buses and cars everyday, but there is lots of hard work. Here are a few salient samples of what I mean:
乡村生活正是我所适合的生活。我喜欢居住在视野开阔之地，在那儿你可以呼吸到新鲜空气，可以欣赏到美丽的草原。我喜欢看到闪电，喜欢听到隆隆的雷声。我还喜欢看奶牛在牧场咀嚼的样子，总是吃得香喷喷的，口水直流。农场生活是简单的，不像城市中你每天必须从公车和小车中突围，但在农村你得做很多艰辛的劳动。下面是我意有所指的几个显著的例子：
Milking cows every morning involves squeezing their utters to release the milk contained in the milk sac. A saline solution needs to be prepared for the cows as their salinity has to be maintained, but they can't receive too much salt, or else the saltiness of their milk will be too high. Feeding the chickens is something else that must be done each day. You have to get a sack of chicken feed, go into the chicken yard, and spread it around until all of the chickens have eaten. Another job is salvaging old farm equipment. If anything gets rusted, you have to sand off the rust and paint it with rustproof paint. At the end of everyday, you have to put the saddle on the horse and go out and round up the cows before it gets dark.
每天早上挤牛奶的工作就包括使劲挤奶牛的乳房，使牛奶从液囊中流出来。挤完以后还必须给奶牛准备一些含盐溶液，以保持牛奶的盐浓度。但奶牛也不能吸收过多盐分，否则牛奶中的盐分将会过高。喂鸡也是每天必不可少的工作。首先你必须准备一袋鸡食，然后去鸡房里，把鸡食撒在地上，直到所有的鸡都已经吃过了你才能走。另外一份工作就是抢修旧农具。如果有工具生锈了，你必须先磨光铁锈，然后刷上防锈漆。每天傍晚时分，你还得给马配上马鞍，在天黑之前骑马出去把所有的奶牛赶回来。
After dinner, we usually sit around the fire telling stories often western sagas about sagacious cowboys who work hard all day and fight off bandits and savages for the sake of their families.
吃完晚饭后，我们经常围坐在火堆旁边讲故事——我们喜欢讲一些西部传说，这种传说一般是关于那些精明能干的牛仔的，他们为了家庭的缘故整天辛勤工作，与强盗和野蛮人作战。
The farm life is also salutary for the soul. The farm is a rustic, quiet sanctuary from the sanctimonious behavior of the city people. People in the country are honest and straight forward. Rural neighbors help each other. It is a sacred way of life for them.
农场生活也非常有益于心灵健康。农场是一个乡村气息很浓，非常静谧的、可躲避城里人虚情假意的避风港。乡村入都非常诚实和坦率。在乡村，邻里之间通常都互相帮助。对他们来说，这是一种圣洁高尚的生活方式。
You may not sanction the rural life, but it's the only life for me.
你有可能不会认可乡村生活，但这却是我惟一喜欢的生活方式。
