52.比赛
Everyone hated how Manning came it over, some even hated to come into any contact with him.
大家都不喜欢曼宁那副盛气凌人的架势，有的人甚至不愿跟他有任何交往。
That's why everyone was so glad when Manning was forced to come back to earth and join us normal people.
所以当曼宁不得不回到现实，加人我们普通人行列的时候，大家都很髙兴。
It happened at a race.
这件事发生在一次比赛当中。
Sponsored by a company whose product had recently come into household use, the race was held on a Saturday.
这次比赛是在一个星期六举行的，赞助者是一家产品刚刚进入家庭使用的公司。
Manning was sure he would come in first in the race and he made sure everyone knew it.
曼宁满以为他能在比赛中获得第一名，所以他搞得谁都知道了他会贏。
Little Mickey, however, disagreed.
但是，小米奇并不这么认为。
He was just coming into his own and, having also just come of age, eligible to run in the race.
他刚进入鼎盛期，而且刚刚满法岁定年龄，所以有资格参加比赛。
Manning had no idea what Little Mickey could do and didn't even notice him when he came into the room.
曼宁不知道小米奇到底水平如何，当他进到房间的时候，曼宁甚至都没有注意到他。
When the race began, it was a joy for the town to see.
比赛开始的时候，全城的人都髙兴地看着热闹。
And although it came in handy to have a pair of binoculars, everyone saw what happened.
虽然望远镜派得上用场， 但大家不用它也看到了发生的一切。
At the beginning all of the runners came into line. Then they took off.
开始的时候所有参赛者排成行，然后他们就起跑了。
Manning led for most of the race, but when it seemed sure that he would win, Little Mickey's plan came into effect.
比赛过程中曼宁一直领先，但就在大家觉得他稳贏的时候，小米奇的计划开始实施了。
He easily came from behind and passed Manning near the end.
他轻轻松松地从后面追了上来，快到终点时超过了曼宁。
Manning looked stunned as he watched Little Mickey come by, Little Mickey won!
看到小米奇从身边经过，曼宁显得很吃惊，小米奇贏了！
The town cheered and Manning almost fainted!
全城欢呼起来，曼宁差点晕倒了！
Suddenly, however, Manning pretended like he had come down with a cold.
但是曼宁突然假装他得了感冒。
Then he even said that he would have beaten Little Mickey on any other day.
接着甚至说要是换个时间他准能击败小米奇。
Everyone laughed at Manning and he finally came down from his high horse and decided to come clean.
大家都笑他，曼宁最后只得放下架子决定说实话。
Yes, he said, Little Mickey had won fair and square.
是的，他说，小米奇贏得光明正大。
When Little Mickey came into the bar that evening, even Manning cheered!
那天晚上小米奇来到酒吧时，就连曼宁也欢呼起来！
